I recently completed the Marine Corps Marathon (October 25, 2009) and my fundraising for The No Greater Sacrifice Endurance Team to help support the education of Staff Sergeant William S. Jackson' s four children. SSG Jackson died from injuries sustained during an IED explosion in Iraq in November 2006.
The NGS Endurance Team of over 100 runners raised nearly $70,000 for Zach (8), Levi (6), Sam(5) and Hannah (3). I am proud to have been a part of the NGS Team this year and I know that the family is grateful for everyone's support.
As for me, I was able to slightly exceed my goal of $2,500. I thank all of my donors, supporters and just everyone who said a prayer or sent me words of encouragement. I did not reach my marathon time goal of 3:10:59 (This would have qualified me for the Boston Marathon). As a matter of fact I was almost an entire hour short of my goal at 4:09:46. My body felt much better than I thought it would after two weeks off due to injury and I couldn't resist the urge to start off too fast.
As for No Greater Sacrifice, the all volunteer organization is still hard at work, raising money to bridge the gap and help support the education of those American military and law enforcement personal who have given the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives defending freedom and liberty around the world.
